WHAT IS SAFETY?

INTRODUCTION TO SAFETY EDUCATION

Safety should not be regarded as a duty but should be taken as a level of consciousness in our day to day lives.

Safety is a noun defined as;
The condition of being protected from or unlikely to cause danger, risk or injury OR denoting something designed to prevent injury or damage. 

TYPES OF SAFETY
There are various forms of safety or security such as safety of the body, property, health, morality and many more. We have put safety into two categories with both equally important and  inter-related. Safety can be;

i.  Internal Safety
Internal safety is the condition of being protected from or unlikely to cause danger, risk or injury in regards to a person’s internal being with matters in relation to safety of:
a) The Mind
b) The Heart
c) The Emotions

ii. External Safety
External safety is the condition of being protected from or unlikely to cause danger, risk or injury in regards to a person’s external physical being with matters in relation to safety of:
a) The Body
b) The Other Person
c) The Property

MASLOWS HIERARCHY OF NEEDS


According to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, Safety or security is the second most basic of human needs after acquiring our physiological needs. This means it is most important once the basic need of air, food, water and necessities are met. Safety is a priority in order for us to strive as human beings.
